Success for The Sixth Form College’s Second Football Team

The Sixth Form College, Solihull 2nd Football Team are this season’s winners of the ECFA West Midlands U-19 League.

The team remained unbeaten throughout this season and clinched the title with a 12-0 away win over Neath Port Talbot last week with one game still to go. Team captain and top goal scorer Hassan Shah scored five goals in the game, with team-mate Joe Smyth adding a hat-trick.

The 2nd Team, consisting entirely of Year 12 students, started the season with a 2-2 draw against Hereford Sixth Form College, but have won every game since. The highlight was a 23-1 victory against South & City College, a record score line for the College.

The College’s UEFA ‘A’ qualified Football Coach Jez Ingram commented:

“Well done to the whole team for a fantastic season. The boys have been a pleasure to work with this year and team spirit has been fantastic. Because they are all Year 12 students, we will be looking to build on this success in the first team next season.”

This piece of silverware is the fourth league title in five years for the College, keeping an impressive run of success for the football team going.

Lee Jones, Curriculum Leader for Sport at The Sixth Form College, Solihull added:

“It’s been an outstanding season for the 2nd Team and I congratulate all the players and Jez for their hard work and dedication.”

Congratulations to the students involved and thank you to the staff who have supported them along the way!
